Canva makes it easy to design a logo, monogram, or graphic — but Canva can't produce embroidery files. To stitch your Canva design, you need to export it as an image and then digitize it. SewFlow handles the second half for free; this guide covers both steps.
Step 1: Export Your Design From Canva
- 1Open your design in Canva and click 'Share' → 'Download'.
- 2Choose PNG as the file type — it gives the cleanest edges for embroidery.
- 3Tick 'Transparent background' (available on Canva Pro) if your design should have no background. If you're on the free plan, design on a plain white background instead.
- 4Set the size to the largest available, then click 'Download'.
Step 2: Convert the PNG to Embroidery
- 1Go to sewflow.com/image and upload the PNG you exported from Canva.
- 2Turn on background removal if you exported on a white background.
- 3Set your hoop size and select JEF, DST, or PES.
- 4Preview the stitch simulation, then download.

- •Use bold, simple shapes and a limited colour palette — embroidery can't reproduce thin lines or gradients well.
- •Avoid Canva's gradient and shadow effects; they don't translate to thread.
- •Make text chunky — thin script can become unreadable below about 5 mm tall.
- •Convert any thin outlines to filled shapes before exporting.
Keep It Bold
The Canva designs that embroider best are the ones that look good as a sticker: solid colours, clear shapes, and high contrast. If it would read well from across a room, it'll stitch well too.
