JEF is used by virtually all Janome embroidery machines from the last 20+ years, including the Memory Craft, Skyline, Atelier, Continental M series, and most Elna machines (which are built on the Janome platform). Check your machine's manual if you're unsure — it will list accepted formats.
Tips for Better JEF Results
- •Use PNG or SVG for logos — they have clean edges and flat colours.
- •For photos, simplify to 4–6 colours for the best stitch output.
- •Minimum design size: 25 mm wide for readable detail.
- •Maximum without splitting: most Janome hoops support 200 mm. Larger designs need splitting.
- •Test-stitch on scrap fabric before stitching on the final garment.
JEF vs JEF+
Newer Janome machines may also support JEF+ (an extended format with additional stitch types). SewFlow outputs standard JEF, which is compatible with all JEF-capable machines including those that also accept JEF+.
