The structured nature of most bag fabrics (canvas, oxford polyester, nylon) makes them easier to embroider than garments, but the limited access inside the bag creates hooping challenges.

How to Hoop a Bag
Most bags can't be hooped conventionally — the stitching would go through both layers. Use a flat hoop method: slide a piece of cardboard or a hoop plate inside the bag to keep the layers separated, then float the bag panel on the hoop by adhering it to a piece of stabilizer in the hoop using temporary spray adhesive.
- 1Insert a stiff cardboard separator inside the bag behind the panel you'll embroider.
- 2Hoop a piece of medium-weight cutaway or tear-away stabilizer in your embroidery hoop.
- 3Spray the stabilizer lightly with temporary adhesive.
- 4Position the bag panel on the stabilizer, centring your mark within the hoop.
- 5Press firmly to adhere. Pin corners if needed to prevent shifting.
- 6Stitch your design normally.
- 7Remove the bag from the hoop and trim excess stabilizer.

Bag Seam Challenge
If the seam at the bottom of the bag falls within your hoop area, the machine will stitch over it — which is usually fine for canvas bags. For structured bags with thick padded seams, move the design higher or use a tubular frame attachment if your machine supports one.
