Embroidered socks make playful gifts and novelty items, but they're a challenging surface: small, tubular, and stretchy. With a small design and careful hooping you can get clean, fun results.
Hooping Socks
Because socks are narrow tubes, use a small hoop and hoop only the stabilizer, then float the sock on top secured with temporary adhesive. This avoids stretching the sock and lets you position the design near the cuff or ankle.
Keep Designs Small and Simple
- •Stick to small motifs or short initials — around 20–30 mm.
- •Use a topping so stitches sit on the knit, not in it.
- •Avoid dense fills that stiffen the stretchy fabric.
