ZSK Embroidery Guide: Formats & Getting Started

Which file formats ZSK machines use, how to load designs, and a free way to make your own.

If you own a ZSK embroidery machine, the first thing to know is which file format it reads — using the wrong format is the most common reason a design won't load. This guide covers ZSK formats and how to create machine-ready designs for free with SewFlow.

    ZSK File Formats

    • ZSK industrial machines use DST and Z-series formats.
    • DST works reliably across ZSK models.

How to Make Designs for Your ZSK

SewFlow exports in all the major formats — JEF, DST, PES, EXP, XXX, and SEW — so you can pick the one your ZSK reads.

    1. 1Open sewflow.com/image for logos and artwork, or sewflow.com/text for lettering.
    2. 2Upload artwork and remove the background, or type your text.
    3. 3Choose the format your ZSK reads, set the size, and preview the stitches.
    4. 4Download the file, copy it to a USB stick, and load it on your machine.

    Format First

When a design won't open on your ZSK, the format is the first thing to check — re-export in the format your model supports.
