Why convert DST to PES?
DST is the Tajima stitch format, read by Tajima commercial machines and nearly every multi-needle or commercial embroidery machine — DST is the industry's most widely supported format. Convert to PES when your Brother or Baby Lock machine needs PES. This is a file-format translation of an already digitized design, not a fresh digitizing pass: it changes the machine container while retaining the available stitch path and colour-stop order.
What happens to thread colours
DST files carry no thread-colour information (the format stores no thread colours at all — only stitches, jumps, and colour-stop commands), so the original physical thread choices cannot be recovered from the file alone. What format conversion cannot fix
Changing DST to PES does not improve poor digitizing, add missing underlay, resize the design for a different hoop, or make an unsupported design safe for a machine. Format limits and machine interpretation can change trim behaviour or palette display, so use the preview as a verification step—not as a substitute for a test stitch.
