Why convert PES to DST?
PES is the Brother embroidery format, read by Brother PE800, SE600/SE700, Innov-ís and Luminaire series machines, and Baby Lock machines. Convert to DST when you're sending the design to a commercial embroiderer or multi-needle machine — DST is the industry's common denominator. This is a file-format translation of an already digitized design, not a fresh digitizing pass: it changes the machine container while retaining the available stitch path and colour-stop order.
What happens to thread colours
DST files do not store thread colours — the format stores no thread colours at all — only stitches, jumps, and colour-stop commands. The converted file keeps the colour-stop sequence, but you must assign the intended physical threads at the machine. Keep the preview or your own thread chart beside the design when setting up the run.

Preflight checklist for this conversion
